With the end of the January nearing I wanted to share my a few of my favorite things from this month.
I know with Valentine’s Day coming up a lot of people are thinking of gift ideas to get their significant others or themselves so hopefully you find this useful. There’s also a bonus at the end of a place I just visited and loved.
I know this isn’t the most exciting purchase but it’s winter here in New York City and I am always sick. I spend a total of four hours traveling to and from work everyday with people who don’t cover their mouths when they sneeze or cough. I also work with people who are constantly traveling for shows so I am just a magnet for germs and colds.
So since I’m always getting sick my friend recommended I buy a humidifier to clear the air. He has one in his office and he says it really helped him. This is definitely one of the smartest purchases I’ve made.
This mini humidifier can sit right on your desk without taking up much space. It’s a bit bigger than a water bottle but still packs a punch. My office gets extremely dry because of the heat so I have trouble breathing and I also have a sinus problem so those two things together really irritates me. But now that I have this little guy I have no trouble breathing.
I like that it’s so small you can just pop it in your bag and bring it with you everywhere. I feel like hotel rooms are notoriously stuffy so it would be useful to bring on a trip and you don’t have to worry about extra cords or plugs because this can plug right into any USB port.
There is a part of me that really wanted to buy Beats. I’ve been considering it for the better part of six months. The sole reason I haven’t purchased them is because of the price tag. They are expensive and completely out of my price range but the music quality is amazing.
As someone who spends such a long time commuting on public transportation headphones are a necessity. So when I lost mine two weeks ago at the gym you can imagine how upset I was. I asked myself do I shell out all of this money for headphones, do I get the new Apple ones or do I go a different route?
I couldn’t bring myself to spend so much money so I went with option C. After a lot of research online I decided to purchase the MPOW Bluetooth Headphones. They’re inexpensive, around $40, but they look very similar to Beats. I’ve gotten a ton of compliments already when I’ve worn them. They look a lot more expensive than they are.
What’s great about these headphones is the padding on the ear. I have a problem with wax build up and using earbuds can push the wax further in, irritating the ear canal. So to have these big earmuffs on my ears feels so good. They also keep my ears really warm and they cancel out background noise so I wear them in my office even without music on.
They instantly connect to my iPhone. I’ve also had no problems taking calls while having them on, listening to music or podcasts. I will say the music quality is great however they’re not as a bass heavy as Beats but for the price it’s a non-issue for me.
This was actually a gift to myself for Christmas. I’ve watched a number of YouTube videos where people have raved about his masks but they’re expensive. This package isn’t cheap either but you get so much bang for your buck.
So far I’ve only tried the pumpkin enzyme mask and the mud mask but they’re both phenomenal. I have extremely dry skin and this winter has been harsh on my face. The pumpkin enzyme mask has removed all of the dead skin and has helped with my flakiness. The mud mask has helped with my blackheads. When I was in high school I remember my boyfriend pointing them out and asking me if I ever washed my face. So embarrassing! I didn’t know what blackheads were at the time or how to get rid of them. I wish I had this mask back then!
A little does goes a long way. Even though I’ve used them once a week it looks like I’ve barely touched the surface with both.
When it comes to make-up I have my routine down to a science. I have my holy grail products and brushes that I never stay from. After two years my make-up brushes were worn down and shedding. They weren’t soft anymore and the application just wasn’t looking its best so I decided to invest in some new brushes. I picked up the Tarte Goal Getters Contour Brush Set because it looked really cute. I mean can we just take a moment to talk about this packaging. I love the fact that they are glitter handles and instead of sticking with black bristles they’re pink! I just think it’s so cute and something I’ve never seen before but then again I’m not a complete make-up pro.
I was actually really impressed with these once I washed them because you never know how a brush is going to hold up until you wash it. There was absolutely no shedding and they felt buttery soft once they dried. Now my make-up goes on smoothly and blends together well again thanks to these brushes.
Even though it was thirty degrees in New York last night I had a craving for ice cream that needed to be fulfilled. As you all know I am on a quest to find the best ice cream in NYC. I have tried a number of places so far and I have many more on my list so I can’t say this is the number one spot just yet but last night it knocked everyone I’ve tried so far out of the running.
I mean come on can we take a moment to just appreciate how cute this unicorn ice cream is!
I’ve seen the fish ice cream cone all over Instagram and have been wanting to try it for months now. I missed my chance when they were in Bryant Park over the summer. I had a craving for ice cream so you know the first place I thought of was Taiyaki.
Located in Chinatown on 119 Baxter Street, the cold trek was totally worth it. I was a little nervous when my friends and I approached the shop because there were a lot of people inside and the place looked really small, which is the norm with all of these new shops. Still, we went inside and were greeted with a warm, “Hello! Welcome!” by the guy manning the cash register.
He also said goodbye to every single person when they were leaving. Obviously it’s his job to be nice but I just felt like he went the extra mile and was sincere in his greeting. As someone who worked in the retail industry for many years I take customer service extremely seriously so I appreciate the warm greeting, the fact they didn’t rush anyone in their decision making process, and the overall warm atmosphere they have going on.
I was honestly so distracted since there were so many people I missed the process of them putting the cone together. However, I felt like a kid on Christmas when they called my name and handed me my unicorn ice cream. I was so excited.
You can make your own creation but I just stuck with what was on the menu. I got the Unicorn cone with strawberry and vanilla ice cream and even my friends boyfriend, who is not impressed by anything, loved how it tasted. The ice cream was so fresh. I was in heaven.
My friend made her own and got green tea ice cream with mochi, condensed milk and some sprinkles. Normally I’m not a big fan of green tea but even I thought it was good. The fish cone itself was interesting. It’s not so much ice cream that you wouldn’t be able to finish the cone. I will say I do wish it was a little warmer because I felt like the cone was cold and a little hard to bite into since it’s pretty thick.
If you’re in New York or planning a trip here I would highly recommend visiting Taiyaki. It’s in a great location. You can walk around Chinatown, grab some dumplings from around the corner and then head to the ice cream shop for dessert. Even if you’re a plain vanilla fan or looking for something with a bit more kick they definitely have enough options to satisfy anyone.
So these are some of the things I’m been loving for the month of January. Let me know in a comment below if you purchase anything or if there’s something you love or a place I need to visit and add to my list.
